ABOUT SHAOLAN
Driven by a passion for connecting cultures and simplifying complexity, ShaoLan is an entrepreneur, designer, and author.
Born in Taiwan to a calligrapher and a ceramicist, she gained an early appreciation for visual language and ancient wisdom.
ShaoLan is known as the creator of Chineasy, an innovative method for learning Chinese that has captivated a global community. Through Chineasy and Lifeasy, she bridges Eastern philosophies with modern systems thinking, aiming to empower individuals with intuitive tools for deeper understanding and connection in our interconnected world.
Her entrepreneurial journey across Asia and Europe includes co-founding pAsia Inc., an influential 1990s internet company, as a young student, and Caravel Capital, advising tech ventures in London while studying at Cambridge University.
Currently, as Executive Chairman of SemiVentures, ShaoLan connects Taiwan's semiconductor expertise with industries across EMEA.
Her work has been acknowledged by platforms such as The Sunday Times Magazine (as one of 'Leading Ladies in Tech,' 2015), Apple ('Woman Who Inspired,' 2018), Microsoft ('Person of Action,' 2018), and Entrepreneur.com (highlighting Asian-rooted women in creative entrepreneurship, 2019).
ShaoLan's best-selling books, including "Chineasy: The New Way to Read Chinese" (translated into 19 languages) and the award-winning Chineasy App (an Apple Design Award finalist, 2022), have brought her accessible learning approach to many. Her design contributions have also earned accolades like Wallpaper Magazine's "Life-Enhancer of the Year" , the Design Museum's 'Best Designs of the Year' (Visitor Vote), and recognition among FastCompany's Top 10 Most Innovative Companies.
Outside her professional roles, ShaoLan finds balance in tennis, skiing, and contemplative walks in nature. The Tao Te Ching's principles, encountered in her youth, remain a guiding influence, inspiring her to explore and share pathways to clarity and inner strength—themes central to her book "The Strategy of No Strategy" and its companion journal, which offer approaches to navigate life with greater ease.
